1863 Reese River silver camp a few miles north of Austin, renamed for the first producing mine after an early Boston newspaper. By 1864–65 dozens of adobe/stone cabins and the 15-stamp Confidence Mill supported twice-daily stages to Austin; flooding of the mines in 1867 largely ended the boom. Stone mill and cabin ruins remain among juniper on public-land approaches.
