Primary Type-A unit of CDFW Imperial Wildlife Area on the east shore of the Salton Sea northwest of Niland. Managed salt marsh, freshwater ponds, and desert scrub with levees and an auto-viewing network; premier Imperial Valley birding for waterfowl, shorebirds, and desert-edge landbirds, plus habitat for endangered desert pupfish in the broader wildlife area. Separate from the Finney–Ramer lakes complex farther south and from Sonny Bono Salton Sea NWR.
