Gold-rush boomtown (1879–early 1900s) on the east side of the Jicarilla Mountains that once rivaled Lincoln as the county’s liveliest camp. When the railroad bypassed the town and the gold played out, population collapsed; surviving public-road streetscape includes brick mercantile ruins, the historic schoolhouse, cemetery markers, and the still-operating No Scum Allowed Saloon in an 1880s building.
