Restored Butterfield Overland Mail and Southern Emigrant Trail stage station at a Colorado Desert oasis in Vallecito Valley, Anza-Borrego country. The site layers Kumeyaay Hawi village use, Army Depot Vallecito (1850), and the 1858–1861 Butterfield station; rebuilt in 1934 as the centerpiece of Vallecito Stage Station County Park (California Historical Landmark No. 304). Reach it on County Route S2 with county day-use and camping rules.
