Soda Lake

Churchill County, NV

Coordinate verified

Young basalt maar (and sister Little Soda Lake) on the Carson Sink floor NW of Fallon — one of Nevada's clearest Holocene phreatomagmatic craters. USGS classifies the pair as maars younger than ~6,000 years, erupted through Lake Lahontan sediments; alkaline meromictic lake chemistry is well studied.
