Malpais Mesa

Esmeralda County, NV

Coordinate verified

A dark volcanic mesa on the southwest fringe of the Goldfield district, gazetted by the Board on Geographic Names and long mapped in classic USGS Goldfield geology as the Malpais basalt—post-mineralization lava that caps older Tertiary volcanic rocks of the ore district. The mesa is a readable open-country geology stop: basalt rim, desert pavement, and long views across the Montezuma / Goldfield volcanic field without entering active mine workings.
