Ludlow

Mojave Desert railroad and Route 66 settlement founded in 1882 as an Atlantic & Pacific water stop, later southern railhead for the Tonopah & Tidewater and northern terminus of the Ludlow & Southern to the Bagdad-Chase mine. It lasted as a motor-court and cafe stop until Interstate 40 bypassed the town. Empty cafe shells, tamarisk rows, and a pioneer cemetery still flank National Trails Highway next to a thin modern services strip.
