Desert Training Center WWII secret camp in Butler Valley east of Bouse where ~5,500 volunteers of the 9th Tank Group trained with Canal Defense Light (CDL) ‘Gizmo’ tanks under General Patton’s theater. Foundations, stone-lined walks, unit insignia rockwork, and a flagpole remain on public land reached by powerline dirt roads; the town of Bouse also keeps memorial plaques at its highway park.
